My POS mtn bike got ripped off so I ended up buying a Craig’s List bike on the cheap. It’s an early 80s Sterling Sportlite. The guy at Performance Bikes told me it was a mixte. I’ve replaced a lot of wear & tear items on it and I’m getting ready to go on my first short ride. I know you’ve talked a lot about mixte’s but what is the allure? I bought it primarily because of price and because it was a good bike to learn repairs on (unless you want new parts and then you’ve got to get a good grasp of vintage bike stores which are luckily easy to find here in Pdx!). When he said “mixte” though I thought of you!

Clipless pedals: Again, a long-term maybe. If I have enough bicycles that I can have one just for roadie-riding? I’ll think about it. For now, I switched my touring bike from toe cages to Power Grips. I already have drop bars! I have dirt drops right now (Salsa Woodchipper) but I’ve had “normal” drop bars in the past. I never liked them, but fit’s always been an issue. STI shifters: Only if I buy a road bike. Group rides: I already do those, but I doubt that you mean the kind of rides I already do, like architecture rides. Pace lines: Utterly terrifying. We’ll see.

Does this mean you will be going the way of Lovely Bicycle writing of road bikes, clipless pedals, drop bars, STI shifters, group rides and riding in a pace line?

Amazing how a well fit bike feels after riding ones that don’t fit for so long.

What’s a Whiffie? We don’t have Whiffies in the Midwest that I know of.
